The Soloist

Wow. What a poignant film. I thought that Jaime Foxx did an amazing, amazing job of portraying Nathaniel Ayers Jr. This film was very touching and realistic. Now, I won't go into a summary of the movie. You can look that up on IMDB.com. So, you will just get my thoughts.

As wonderful as Jamie Foxx did, I don't think Robert Downey Jr did quite as well. Not to be rude, I think he did just fine, but to me Foxx's portrayal was amazing. Did I say that already??

The movie had some scenes that were totally unnecessary in my opinion. Really, what does the raccoon have to do with this story??? I don't know. There were some funny scenes and some scenes that made me cry. I'd like to see it again.

Oh, the music!!! The wonderful music! It was beautiful!

So, as you can tell I am not a professional writer. Not even an especially good one, but I just had to share.

Hurt Go Happy

Hurt Go Happy is a really touching story. Brittany said that she even cried. Well, I cried many times. It wasn't the most well written book, but had a very touching story. It's about a girl who is deaf and her mother won't let her learn sign language. Joey meets an older man and his chimpanze and they teach her sign language. Obviously, I am not a reviewer but I think this was a really, really touching story. That's 3 times I've used touching, but I can't think of a better word for it.

Sunshine State Books & Expanding my reading library

This past year I decided to read the Florida Sunshine State books. I had realized that many of these books contained content that I should be aware of. Nothing totally bad, just things I wasn't sure I wanted Brittany to be reading about. So, this past summer I decided to read them all before Brittany so I could discuss anything that came up with her. Also, she doesn't like scary books, but since it is such a big deal to read them in her school, she reads them. So, I could let her know which books to read during the day, etc. The books were really good!

Well, they have two groups-3-5th grade and 6-8th. Brittany decided to start reading the 6-8th after she finished the others, so now I am trying to catch up to her! She's still ahead of me I think. Now the whole thing is more of a challenge to me to read all the Sunshine State books.

I decided to to broaden my book reading last summer. I tend to stick to the same books and authors. So I read a lot of books over the summer and even won 3 drawings at the library! Most everybook was good! How can one read everything and just choose?? I did find a new series that I really like. The Joe Grey Mystery series.

Okay, so this post just rambled. I think it was a great challenge for me to read the same books as my older daughter and still read my adult books. So, if anyone is reading this, I think you should challenge yourself to do some out of the box reading. It's been a wonderful experience. And you can do it with movies as well! Something else I've learned.

Tracking my stuff

This is mostly just a way for me to keep track of the fun and neat things I've done. Not to brag to anyone except to myself. I am going to try to keep all my stuff here on a positive note! Yip Yip! I am proud of the books I've read and the free movies my friend and I have been to. We work hard to get those tickets! :D Also, I need a place where I can write what I want! So, I guess I have had some fun for now. But I do have a family to take care of, so.......

Woo Hoo!

Been meaning to do this for a long time! :D One more thing for me to keep up with! LOL
